Area students have until January 17 to apply for more than $20,000 worth of scholarships offered by Sioux Valley Energy. To apply, teens must be graduating high school seniors or first-time attendees at an institution of higher education.
The majority of the scholarship funding comes from Operation Round Up funds, with additional funds from Basin Electric Power Cooperative and L&O Power Cooperative.
Applications are judged on the basis of grades, ACT or SAT test scores, work experience, school activities, volunteer community service and an essay question. The scholarship committee that determines recipients includes two Operation Round Up Board Members, an SVE Board Member, two SVE employees and a school counselor or administrative staff member. Scholarship funds must be used to pay expenses directly related to your continuing education.
The deadline for this year’s application is 4 p.m. on Friday, January 17, 2025. Applications and supporting materials (postmarked no later than January 17, 2025) may be sent to: Sioux Valley Energy/Scholarship Contest, PO Box 216, Colman, SD 57017.
Application forms are available from your school counselor, from any Sioux Valley Energy Service Center (in Colman, Pipestone, Brandon, and Hartford), on the website or by calling 1-800-234-1960.
